Title: Rottnest (2024)  [HD Video, Runtime 11min 39sec.]

Rottnest is an experimental documentary film that follows a team of scientists led by Dr. Andy Baker as they conduct groundwater research within Rottnest Island, a 19-square-kilometre island off the coast of Western Australia. The island provides an ideal landscape for observing the intrusion of saltwater into coastal groundwater systems as the region experiences worsening drought due to climate change. Despite being invisible to the eye and only observable through careful scientific analysis, the changes to the landscape are profound, yet ironically at odds with the muted way scientists conduct their research. Rottnest, with its intense score and cinematic approach, explores the quiet yet relevant drama unfolding within the landscape.
